Questions and answers
Short answers to what designers, contractors and investors ask.
Does the investor need an account to approve extra work?
No. The contractor or designer who priced the work can send the quote to an investor who has no FIXER account: by SMS, through WhatsApp, by e-mail or as a copied link.
How it works
The investor opens the link in a browser, with no login and no app to install. They see the title of the work and the amounts, enter their first and last name, and then approve or reject the quote. The decision is saved in the project with the name and the time, and the contractor is notified.
How long the link is valid
The link works once and is valid for 7 days. A new link cancels the previous one, so the contractor can send the quote again if it was not opened or has expired.
An account is optional
An investor who wants to see all quotes and the history of decisions in one place can enter FIXER after deciding. They only give an e-mail address and get a link to enter, with no password.
Who is FIXER for and how large are the jobs it handles?
FIXER is for small teams that run a renovation or fit-out of an apartment together: their own, for rent or for sale. In everyday use it works for projects from about 30 to about 300 m². The team has three roles: designer, contractor and investor.
Who can use it
Each of the three roles can take part in the test: designer, contractor or investor. An investor can renovate one apartment or, within a year, several.
What about large projects?
FIXER is not a system for running a large construction project. On large projects it can be used to a limited extent.
What is FIXER and what is it for?
FIXER is a web app for extra work on construction sites and in interior renovations. It does not replace the bill of quantities or the contract: it covers tasks outside the original plan. The contractor or designer reports the work and gives a micro-quote, the investor approves or rejects it, and every decision is recorded. Approved work forms a list that is ready for the final settlement.
How do I record extra renovation work so there is no dispute about the cost?
You report each extra job in the app as a separate change, with a description and a quote. It is best to do it before the work starts: the investor approves or rejects it, and the decision is recorded in the change history. That way the arrangements do not depend on memory or on messages scattered across different messengers.
Does FIXER replace an addendum to the contract with the contractor?
No. FIXER does not replace the contract or an addendum. It records the arrangements and approvals for extra work and gives you a report that you can attach to your documentation. Whether an addendum is needed is for the parties to the contract to decide.
Who approves extra work?
The investor approves. The designer and the contractor report and quote the work, and the quote goes to the investor with a request for a decision.
What if the contractor reports a delay?
The contractor can flag a delay when quoting the work or report it later. The investor and the designer see the delay in the app.
What does the test look like and what do I have to do?
The test lasts 4 weeks. You don’t pay and you don’t enter a card, and you have access to all features. We count the four weeks from the first move in the app: the first change added or the first invitation accepted.
Feedback on the test
During the test we may ask for a short opinion. Answering is voluntary.
Want to finish earlier?
How much will it cost?
The plans and their prices are still being designed. We plan for you to pay for scale, not for features.
Where is my data, who can see it and can I download it?
Where the data is
We store project data on servers in the European Union.
Who sees a project
Only the people you invite can see a project. Each participant has one role in the project: designer, contractor or investor.
Downloading data
You can download a backup of the project at any time. The “Download backup” button saves a file with the change timeline, comments and the task list on your device. The file is digitally signed: when loading it, the app checks the signature and rejects a file that someone changed after downloading.
While the app is open, it also saves the latest state of the project in the browser every few minutes. This copy stays only on your device.
Our backups
Database backups serve only to restore the whole app after a failure. We do not restore individual projects on request, so it is worth downloading your own copy, especially before closing a project.
Does FIXER work on a phone and without internet?
Yes. FIXER works in your phone’s browser and you can install it on the home screen like an ordinary app. You don’t download it from a store.
How to install
- iPhone: in Safari tap the Share icon (a square with an arrow), then choose “Add to Home Screen”.
- Android and computer: click the install icon in the browser’s address bar (usually on the right) or the ⋮ menu → “Install app”.
Notifications on your phone work once the app is installed. On iPhone they are silent, see the question about sound below.
Without internet
The app opens without internet and shows the most recently loaded change timeline and messages. Notes, messages and changes added without internet are sent automatically when the connection returns.
I can’t hear notification sounds on iPhone.
This is a limitation of the iPhone itself, not of the app. An app installed on the home screen (the only way it can work on iOS) receives notifications, but always silent, without sound. Full notifications with sound are available only to apps downloaded from the App Store, and this cannot be worked around.
Notifications don’t work in the Brave browser.
You need to do the following, in this order:
- Allow notifications for the app BEFORE you install it on the desktop or home screen.
- Turn off Brave Shields for the app (the lion icon in the address bar).
- Check in Brave Settings → Notifications → Not allowed whether the app was automatically blocked anyway.
I see the message “Still not working even after refreshing”. What does it mean?
The browser allows notifications for the app, but the app cannot subscribe to receive them, even after a repair attempt and a refresh. The “Report a bug” button only sends us a report, it does not fix anything by itself. Before you click it, try:
- The steps from the Brave question above.
- In the browser settings, withdraw the app’s permission for notifications and grant it again.
- Close the app completely and open it again.
If the message comes back anyway, report a bug. Then we need to check it on our side.
What FIXER is not
FIXER documents, it does not promise.
- It does not settle payments. It records the parties’ decisions and provides a report as material for settlement. The settlement itself stays with the people who made the contract.
- It guarantees nothing. The report shows what was recorded and approved in the app.
- It does not replace a contract. The contract between the parties remains the basis of the cooperation.
- It is not a system for a large construction project. It is for small teams and apartments from about 30 to about 300 m².
